So last time, I decided to work up a client report. Instead, I ended up creating a document study and then an accompanying work plan. Here is that plan, from page 4 of my report:
I had already done 1-5 so, but I ended up starting with #6, and did not find what I was expecting.
I figured, since Gertrude was from Knudsker and her son Didrich was born in Nylarsker that she would have moved to Nylarsker at some point – I know, brilliant. 🙂 So, I started looking for a move-in record for her in Nylarsker before Mar 1816, when Didrich was born.
If she lived there more than 9 months prior to his birth, then she would have gotten pregnant there. If she moved in while pregnant, then she would have conceived Didrich at her previous parish…and that’s where Johan would have been too.

Now is a time for a pretty great aside.
Last Saturday I went to the Family History Library to take some more Danish research classes. I guess I didn’t read the course descriptions very well because when I got there I found out that they didn’t really apply to me. The first was Southern Denmark research (which got transferred back and forth with Germany, so their records are a bit different), then Big City Research, and finally, Copenhagen research. Since I didn’t really have any Big City or Copenhagen ancestors, I was just going to leave and work in the library, but decided to stay and see if I could learn anything – I did!
And now I can use it!
So, next I need to track Gertrude to Copenhagen, figure out what parish she was living in and see if Johan is nearby.
Oh, these Jensen’s! I have a few additional records for them, and then, I hit a brick wall. So, I’ll post what I have so far and then may have to focus my efforts elsewhere for a while.
I have found Peder Jensen’s (b. 1839) Confirmation record in the Nylarsker parish, Bornholm, Denmark:

Interesting:
From his christening record I found his parents names – Christen and Kristine.Â
The physician administering his vaccine doesn’t match what I have from his marriage record. Here it states “Grove” but his marriage record says “Zahrtmann”. Most of the other confirmants on this page were vaccinated by Zahrtmann…I wonder if this is the time period when the physician changed and the priest may have made an error. Then again, Peder’s entry is out of order so perhaps “Grove” was the correct doctor.
From the 1870 Census I found two children for Peder and Christine Jensen. I’ve also gone back and found christening records for those children and for Peder. Since both children were christened in the Lutheran church I guess the Jensen’s didn’t get baptized into the LDS church like Christine’s family did…at least not yet. 🙂
Moving forward in time, I decided to look for the Jensen’s in the 1880 Danish census. I have family accounts, from the Funch/Lund’s in the USA, that the Jensen’s did immigrate at some future time. It would have to be after 1880 since they are in the census —
This time they have another son, Jacob Peter Jensen, age 1. There is a 10 year gap between Laurits and Jacob. Did they have more children who did not live to 1880? Miscarriages wouldn’t be recorded but stillbirth’s would probably get a burial record (but I would imagine not a birth record). If they did have children that lived for a short while, then I should be able to find a birth record. I’ll have to go through all the church records for those years and see what I can find.

Since the 1870 Danish Census gave me Peder Jensen’s birth place as Nylars (which is Nylarsker parish), I went into the church records to find his christening.

Interesting: It appears that Peder may have been ill as a newborn because he was christened at home.
Why, its the study of the Lund's, of course! I am jumping in to researching our family history and seeing where it takes me. We are the Lund's. We come from Lund's, Ranson's, DeMacedo's, Lima's, Anderson's, Warner's, Ferreira's, Da Silva's and beyond! Since my own side of the family is from Brazil, it is quite difficult to track things down. Troy's side, on the other hand, has proven to be much easier. So, I'll be jumping back and forth and all around to learn about where we come from.
