I’m still working on the descendancy for Didrich and Karen Lund. The Jensen’s (their oldest daughter’s family) are taking a time-out, so I’ve shifted my focus to their oldest son, Hans Peter Funch Lund and his descendants.
I found the death certificate for Annie Emilia Lund (Draney) (Wheeler) on the Utah State Archives website. For a better idea of how she connects to my husband, Troy, here’s the relationship chart –
So, Annie is Troy’s First Cousin, 3 times removed. Their common anscestor is Didrich and Karen… Troy’s 3rd great grandfather and Annie’s grandfather.
It is interesting to note that Annie is the daughter of Hans Peter and Bertha. Hans died young, in Sept 1872 at the age of 28, leaving Bertha with two young daughters – Annie (age 2) and Mary (not quite 1 yo). Mary died that same year, in Nov of 1872.
Then, Bertha married Hans’ youngest brother, Willard Richard Lund and had two more children with him.
So, Willard was Annie’s step-father/uncle and her half-brothers were also her cousins!!!
Anyway, on to her death certificate:

Since looking at my Grandfather’s death certificate I thought I should try to track down the other “documents” of his life. First, I decided to find his birth record.

Translation: On the 8th of April of nineteen twenty one I solemnly baptised Genival, born on the 1st of April of the same year, legitimate son of Antonio Avellino de Macedo and Leonizia Marinho de Macedo. The godparents were Abdias Genuinro de Farias and Celidonia Marinho de Fairas. For the record I made this entry. Father Antonio Augusto, Vicar Married at the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro to Deolinda Ferreira on 2 Oct 1948.
About the side note:I thought it was interesting that the priest went back and noted Genival’s marriage to the side of his birth record. My father said that since Genival’s mother died when he was a young child he was raised by another woman and when he joined the military he gave his name with that woman’s maiden name as his middle name (which is the Brazilian naming custom) to honor her. When he went to marry my grandmother the name he gave was different than what was on his military records so the priest requested a copy of his original birth record to verify who he was. So, when the priest in Picui looked up his birth record he noted to the side that Genival married Deolinda.
I know my Grandfather was a navy man all his life and retired from the military. I would love to get access to his military records and corroborate all the stories he told us when we were kids. According to grandpa, during World War II his ship was sunk twice…he even had a wicked scar on his arm to “prove” it. I’d love to find the records that show him as assigned to those ships and records of what happened to those ships…perhaps even photographs. I may have to assign this out to my grandmother since she is in Rio and may have to go to some repository to get those documents.
Oh, these Jensen’s! I have a few additional records for them, and then, I hit a brick wall. So, I’ll post what I have so far and then may have to focus my efforts elsewhere for a while.
I have found Peder Jensen’s (b. 1839) Confirmation record in the Nylarsker parish, Bornholm, Denmark:

Interesting:
From his christening record I found his parents names – Christen and Kristine.
The physician administering his vaccine doesn’t match what I have from his marriage record. Here it states “Grove” but his marriage record says “Zahrtmann”. Most of the other confirmants on this page were vaccinated by Zahrtmann…I wonder if this is the time period when the physician changed and the priest may have made an error. Then again, Peder’s entry is out of order so perhaps “Grove” was the correct doctor.
Why, its the study of the Lund's, of course! I am jumping in to researching our family history and seeing where it takes me. We are the Lund's. We come from Lund's, Ranson's, DeMacedo's, Lima's, Anderson's, Warner's, Ferreira's, Da Silva's and beyond! Since my own side of the family is from Brazil, it is quite difficult to track things down. Troy's side, on the other hand, has proven to be much easier. So, I'll be jumping back and forth and all around to learn about where we come from.
Are you related to us? I'd love to learn more about you and share what I know about our common ancestors!
